IMR Brings Cumberland County Recorder of Deeds into Computer Age
General Public Provided Easier Access to Land Transaction Records
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg-based information management company, IMR, recently converted the Cumberland County Recorder of Deeds office to an electronic method of filing and access to the over 50,000 land transactions that the office records annually.
Thanks to a strong commitment from Cumberland County's Recorder of Deeds and County Commissioners Gary Eichelberger, Richard Rovegno and Bruce Barclay, the county went live on the new system on August 1.
IMR takes the paper document, records it into a computerized document index and calculates all of the filing fees. The documents are then scanned so that they are immediately available for viewing. This new process is much more efficient and makes the search for a particular document much easier than the old system. According to Recorder of Deeds Bob Zeigler, the immediate response from the general public has been quite positive.
The total project will include the electronic conversion of all documents dating back to 1993. Individuals searching for records will also be able to retrieve index records back to the 1970s. In addition, the county is slowly converting to electronic filing for deeds, mortgages and property transfers processed by the Recorder of Deeds office.
