IMR Teleburn Installation

When a patient is being rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, the last thing on their mind is how the treatment will be rendered and what technology allows the seamless coordination of their care. Fortunately, for anyone needing treatment for severe burns at the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) or their affiliated hospitals, IMR has helped to implement a state-of-the art healthcare information system that provides critical patient information.

IMR - Information Management Resources - has worked with LVHN to implement a cutting edge Teleburn medical technology system that enables doctors to provide immediate, appropriate treatment by top burn specialists, even if those specialists are not in the same hospital as the patient. Teleburn allows the referring hospitals throughout the Mid-Atlantic region to transmit images of a patient's burns directly to LVHN for evaluation.

Medical specialists in the Trauma and Teleburn Unit can then make the determination if the patient can be appropriately cared for at the local healthcare facility or if the burns are severe enough to warrant transportation to the Regional Burn Center for more comprehensive treatment.

Twenty-four hospitals are connected via Teleburn to the LVHN Burn Center, including Hazleton General, Moses Taylor, Pinnacle, Holy Spirit and Blue Mountain to name a few. These referring hospitals utilize a digital camera to capture images of the patient's burns. The images are then transmitted to LVHN via a secure connection. The images are viewed via the IMR OnBase solution to burn care specialists who view them, while consulting with the physician from the referring hospital by phone.

IMR has expanded the consulting capabilities of Teleburn by enabling on-call doctors to view the transmitted burn images via portable PDAs or smartphones. Thanks to custom programming by IMR, the images can be transmitted as Onbase HL7 messages via innovative technology solution. An HL7 (Health Level 7) module is a standard for electronic interchange of clinical, financial and administrative information among healthcare computer systems. The installation of the technology solution will allow physicians and specialists around-the-clock access to review images and access treatment options.

IMR is helping the Lehigh Valley Health Network take their technology and their patient care to the next level by providing innovative solutions with cutting edge applications.

Teleburn In Action

Lori Zimmerman knows firsthand how the Teleburn system can make a critical difference in the treatment of burns. Burned over 10% of her body from a spilled pot of soup, she was first taken to a local hospital, which utilized Teleburn. With the use of the system, doctors recommended that she be transferred to the Lehigh Valley Health Network Burn Center, where she was successfully treated.
