About The Freeze Drying Process

The first step in the freeze drying restoration process is to freeze the water damaged item at a very fast rate. This stabilizes the material and prevents further damage. Next, the frozen materials are placed in a vacuum chamber which is set to a very low absolute pressure. The low pressure chamber is devoid of air. As the vacuum chamber reaches the proper temperature, the moisture from the frozen materials is converted into vapor. Then a condensing unit draws the moisture out of the chamber. Approximately 90% of the drying process takes place while the materials are frozen. Finally, the temperature is gradually increased in the chamber, along with the introduction of more air to finish the drying process.
